7 Habits: Question #3

Is there a particular habit that really resonated with you as needing to be implemented in your life? Were there any that you thought were really stupid?

Even though it is simple, I really liked habit 1 (be proactive). It wasn't anything revolutionary, but since I sometimes have a negative mentality, it helped to be reminded that I can take initiative and act to create positive situations.

I also liked habit 5 (seek first to understand). I think it will be really worthwhile to try to master listening to really understand others because it makes communication much more meaningful and compassionate.

I really didn't like habit 6 (synergize). I had a really hard time getting through this one and mostly I just thought it was cheesy.

I liked habit 1 as well. It was basically a great practical sermon on free agency, which is a cool concept that is often brushed over as something more simple and self-explanatory than it is. I think Covey did a good job of showing the power of free agency and what it really means. Habit 1 also made me think a lot of one of my favorite books, "East of Eden", whose theme is really our ability to be proactive, though it is expressed a lot better in the book.
